We’re thrilled to have SFU graduate and interdisciplinary designer Christian Ching joining us for our fall Producing apprenticeship. Learn a little about Christian’s work in and out of the theatre below, and look for him this fall at 12th and Hemlock.
Christian is a lighting and set designer with an interest in design and biological systems. He is a graduate of Simon Fraser University (2021) with a double degree in Theatre Production and Design and in the Biological Sciences. Originally from the Philippines, he is currently based in the unceded Coast Salish territories (also known as Vancouver) and works in theatre, dance, and interdisciplinary work as a lighting and set designer, as well as a technician. His design practice aims to revolve around collaboration and the consideration of ecological aspects of design. He has also worked as a show Technical Director in Theatre, Dance, and interdisciplinary work. His personal interests revolve around botany, gardening, music, board games, and game design. In his free time, he likes to draw, play games, and make music.
What are you looking forward to most about the apprenticeship?
Most looking forward to working with great people and learning! Sounds pretty generic, yes, but I think there’s not much better than working on great art with good people and gaining new skills and experiences along the way.
Could you share a piece of theatre that moved you?
